Home › Restaurant Scheveningen
Scheveningen has dozens of places to eat, but a restaurant in Scheveningen where you instantly feel at home is rarer. Oma Toos is named after a real grandma from The Hague, and you can taste that in everything. The menu is full of dishes the way she made them: fresh Dutch pancakes and poffertjes, a rich Dutch lunch menu and evening classics such as stamppot, oma’s steak and the fisherman’s pan. No fuss, just honest food at a fair price.
The interior tells the same story. Delft blue tiles on the tables, windmills and old family photos on the walls, hundreds of warm little lights on the ceiling and deep red benches. In the middle of the restaurant stands a canal house where children play to their heart’s content. It feels like the Dutch living room of the seaside town, finished fresh and comfortable.
The kitchen cooks daily from 10:30 to 20:30, so you are welcome all day: coffee with apple pie in the morning, an extensive lunch, pancakes in the afternoon and a full dinner in the evening. Have a look at the full menu with all dishes and prices, or just drop by and let us surprise you.
What makes this restaurant truly special is the location. Oma Toos sits on the Dr. Lelykade, right on the second inner harbour of Scheveningen. From almost every table, and certainly from the sunny terrace, you look out over the marina: sailing boats, fishing vessels and the ever-moving water. Just away from the bustle of the boulevard, yet within walking distance of the beach.
That location quickly turns dinner into an outing. Combine a beach walk or a stroll around the harbour with lunch or dinner, and finish with a dessert or a speciality coffee while the sun sets behind the masts. In summer the waterside terrace is our guests’ favourite spot; in winter you sit warm inside with the same view through the large windows.
It is practical too. During the day you park for free in the spacious spots at the door; paid parking only applies from 18:00. From The Hague city centre it is a fifteen-minute drive to the quay, and the bus gets you here easily as well. A relaxed evening out starts at the table, not with circling for parking.
The menu at Oma Toos is broad enough for every party and every moment of the day. You may already know our house speciality: fresh Dutch pancakes, baked thin and golden brown to the family recipe, from classic plain to richly topped specials with carpaccio or smoked salmon. We also bake fluffy poffertjes all day long, and waffles and American pancakes are on the menu for those with a sweet tooth.
Between 10:30 and 17:00 you can lunch on Dutch classics: kroketten, an uitsmijter, homemade soup or a fresh salad. From 17:00 you join us for dinner, with the stamppot of the day, a tender steak, the Black Angus burger and a generous fisherman’s pan with cod, shrimps and lobster sauce. There is a dedicated kids’ menu for the children.
Almost every pancake can be baked vegan, gluten-free and lactose-free, and the kitchen is happy to think along for allergies. Everyone at the table finds something to enjoy, from the smallest eater to the biggest appetite.
Oma Toos is a family restaurant at heart, and you will notice. In the middle of the restaurant stands the famous playhouse shaped like a Dutch canal house, where the little ones play while you relax after your meal. There are high chairs, a kids’ menu and a kids’ ice cream in a fun cup to take home.
At the same time the restaurant is spacious and fully wheelchair accessible, including an adapted toilet. Three generations at one table is the rule rather than the exception here: grandpa and grandma have the stamppot, the parents a speciality pancake and the kids their own menu.
Something to celebrate with a larger group? Above the restaurant we have our own floor with a terrace for parties, company drinks and other occasions, with the same view over the harbour. See Parties and Events for the options, or call us for a tailored proposal.
Arranging a table at Oma Toos takes no time. Here is what you want to know before you come:
